Big Brand Clothing Involves Pollution: Who Should Stick To?

Big Brand Clothing Brand To Whom Pollution Sticks Go

Greenpeace, an international environmental group, released a survey in August 23rd. It said a sample of 15 samples including Adidas, CONVERSE, Lining and other well-known brands of shoes and clothing products were detected by NPE, a nondestructive testing agency in Britain. In July, Greenpeace also released a report that the organization found that the brands did not carry out effective environmental supervision on their suppliers, and their suppliers produced NP (Ren Jifen) to the environment during their production process.

"Greenpeace requires all brands to immediately eliminate toxic and hazardous substances". After pointing out the problem of environmental pollution, green peace will directly put pressure on enterprises in order to solve the problem thoroughly.

But is this stick going up, is it falling down?

I think there are still some questions to be discussed.

Worldwide, NGO has been monitoring enterprises since the environmental movement started in the West.

Environmental responsibility

Whether or not it is in place is a natural act, but how to evaluate whether the environmental responsibility of enterprises is in place?

What are their standards?

In fact, enterprises fulfill their responsibilities for environmental protection. There are two parts. One is to meet the environmental emission standards of the enterprises located in the state and enterprises and the enterprises that belong to them. These are the compliance standards and belong to the passive requirements. Two, in addition to the standards set by the laws and regulations, enterprises must strictly restrict themselves and pursue a smaller level of pollution emission. This is a moral standard and belongs to the active demand.

If public opinion is to evaluate whether an enterprise is responsible for the environment, the necessary condition for investigation is whether the enterprise meets the compliance standard.

As for moral standards, it is a matter of icing on the cake. Enterprises should voluntarily improve their own needs for a variety of purposes, higher than the statutory standards, and actively practice. Of course, they should be commended and encouraged. However, in the current competitive environment, if the enterprises reach the current regulations and standards, and there is no higher standard of self requirements than the statutory standards, there is no reason for public opinion to criticize them.

Now the problem is coming.

For NPE and NP, NGO points out that it is an environmental hormone pair.

ecological environment

And the negative effects of human health, criticizing enterprises for failing to fulfill their environmental responsibilities, damaging products to consumers, requiring clothing enterprises to disable these substances from the source, but enterprises also feel wronged: these raw materials are widely used in some industries at present, and China has never had a regulation or standard, requiring enterprises to eliminate the use of these chemicals from the source. From the point of view of compliance, they can be regarded as good citizens with good environmental performance.

Cannot be trusted

There is no standard to follow, there are natural loopholes in supervision, which become the key point in the conflict between enterprises and NGO.

Supporters say that each country has its own national conditions and industrial status. Now it is not the stage to make certain regulations and standards. If the "overlord is hard to bow", because the industrial foundation does not possess, it will kill a large number of enterprises and lose it. Opponents say that this is a loophole for multinational companies to deliberately drill the laws of developing countries, and to reduce the environmental protection input to achieve the greatest economic profits.

Environmental pollution is inevitable in modern industrial production, but from the perspective of humanism, it must be controlled within the limits as far as possible, which is related to various costs such as technology, regulations and markets.

It is of course the best way to play a win-win situation in terms of environmental interests and economic interests, but it must be a delicate and long process.

From the experience of the world, the final solution of environmental problems always requires the linkage of the three governments, enterprises and the public (NGO). The three of them are the best radical solutions in formulating policy standards, pforming energy saving and emission reduction through technological pformation, and supervising enterprises in giving advice to the government.
