South Korea Revised The Special Product Safety Bill For Children.

In October 2016, the Korea technology and Standards Bureau (KATS) issued a number of notifications to the World Trade Organization (WTO), including G/TBT/N/KOR/676, G/TBT/N/KOR/678 and G/TBT/N/KOR/680, to amend the special product safety act for children, involving children's leather products, children's textiles, baby textiles, etc.

The revised draft covers the following:

First, the physical safety requirements of child bed protection device are increased, and the safety requirements and labeling requirements of riding electric toys are increased.

The two is to increase the safety requirements of hazardous chemicals in toys, and modify the relevant testing methods (19 heavy metals, 10 organic tin, etc.), and increase the requirements of microbial safety of toys.

The three is to clarify the classification of musical instruments in schools; it reflects the revision of the requirements for testing the toxicity of products.

Four is for babies.

The electrical safety requirements of infant textiles containing lithium batteries and the safety requirements of nonylphenol and nonylphenol polyoxyethylene are increased.

According to the safety confirmation system, the manufacturer and importer need to confirm the safety, and submit to the safety certification body the test and inspection certificate of the test laboratory and inspection institution designated by the product type to confirm whether it meets the safety standard before the goods are released or declared to the customs.

The five is the addition of lithium batteries to children's leather products and children's textile suppliers.
