In the first 5 months of 2018, the export volume of footwear products in Italy decreased by 1.7% compared with the same period last year. However, the export volume increased by 3.2%, and the average price of each pair of shoes increased by 5% to 42.2 euros / double.

The industry added that the situation is unlikely to improve in the short term as the EU continues to impose sanctions on Russia.
Piloty, chairman of the Italy national Footwear Manufacturers Association, said: "we hope that 2017 will become a turning point in our footwear industry. But in the first half of 2018, the slowdown in exports and production forces us to reflect on and ponder over the new strategy for the future because we need long-term efforts to achieve our goals.
