China'S Import Of Cotton Will Increase By 90% In 2020 / 2021

Customs statistics show that in March 2021, China imported 280000 tons of cotton, a decrease of 10000 tons compared with February, a decrease of about 3%, but an increase of 80000 tons compared with the same period in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 40%. Since 2020 / 2021 (from September 2020 to March 2021), China has imported about 1.94 million tons of cotton, an increase of 90% over the same period of last year. Among them, American cotton, Brazilian cotton, Indian cotton and West Africa cotton ranked the top, while the import volume of Central Asian cotton (mainly Uzbekistan cotton) continued to decline significantly, while Greek cotton, Mexican cotton, Argentina cotton and other small production areas and brands imported sporadically.

Some cotton related enterprises said that although the base of cotton import volume was relatively low due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in the first half of 2020, and the global wide range of vaccination made cotton consumption recover rapidly and rebound, it was still surprising that China's cotton import increased by more than 90% year-on-year since 2020 / 2021. Considering that China's total import of cotton in the first quarter of 2021 is 970000 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 59%, the growth time point of cotton import in this year is mainly from September 2020 to December 2020.
