Ready-Made Garments Export Energy Shortage In Pakistan

The export volume of textiles and garments exported to Pakistan during the fiscal year 2008 (July 2007 to June 2008) was about $10 billion 560 million, down 2% from the previous year's 10 billion 780 million US dollars.

The export volume of woven garments decreased by 3.2% to about US $1 billion 500 million, cotton yarn 9.4% to about US $1 billion 300 million, bed sheets 5.4% US $1 billion 900 million and cotton fabric 4.6% US $1 billion 900 million.

The decline in volume was even more dramatic. Exports of woven garments decreased by 13%, bed sheets 9%, cotton fabrics 13% and cotton yarn 16%.

However, the export value of knitted garments increased by 2%, an increase of US $1 billion 800 million and an increase of 2.5%.

The value of footwear exports increased by 8.2% to $124 million, but the number dropped by 10%, with only 14 million pairs.

Pakistan's exports of textiles and clothing are seriously affected by high costs and energy shortages.

In the first half of the year, interest rates rose by 35%, cotton prices rose by 42%, and inflation reached 17% in the country.
