The federal government of Pakistan may cut its cotton production target by 10% in the current fiscal year because of the decline of plastic in cotton fields domestically produced in China. It is reported that in the current financial year, the area of cotton cultivation in Pakistan has decreased by 8-10%, mainly due to input costs, low standard cotton seeds, serious insect pest details and water shortages.

Last week, the high level meeting considered cotton cultivation and production. As a result, cotton cultivation in the cotton season this year may be lower than in the previous fiscal year, because water shortages occurred in different parts of the country.

In the current fiscal year, the target of cotton cultivation area set by the government of Pakistan is 3 million 200 thousand hectares, 200 thousand hectares higher than the previous fiscal year. But according to the current figures, the total area of total cotton cultivation this year is 2 million 950 thousand hectares, which is 250 thousand hectares lower than the target.

Statistics from various provinces show that the area of cotton cultivation this year is lower than that of the previous fiscal year, because the growers turned to other crops, such as sunflowers, which is due to the fact that the pink worm is expected to have detailed cotton crops. 3 million 180 thousand.

Therefore, with the decline of cotton planting area, the cotton evaluation committee will reduce its cotton output by 10% to 12 million 600 thousand packets at the next meeting, with a target of 14 million 120 thousand packs. The conference will also instruct the provincial agricultural bureaus to provide the final sowing statistics as at July 2008. The assessment is expected to be announced by the end of August or early September, and the government is likely to cut cotton production by 10%.
