After the morning mist dispersed, there are often crystal dew hanging on the spider web.

Inspired by this phenomenon, Chinese researchers reported in the latest issue of the British Journal of nature that they invented a new type of man-made fiber that can adsorb moisture from the air like spider silk to its surface.

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beihang University reported that they observed the spider web with optical microscope and electron microscope. It was found that the spider silk with condensation dew had a unique structure: there were many spindles on the trunk formed by two fibers, and when the moisture in the air condensed onto the surface of spider silk, they would collect large drops of dew in these tiny places.

The researchers say that like the unique structure of spider silk, they use nylon fibers and other materials to create a similar "water absorbing spider silk".

Experiments show that when the new material is placed in the fog, the moisture in the air can be condensed into water droplets on the surface of the material.

Researchers believe that the new material is expected to be used for obtaining moisture from air and industrial filtration.
