The structural characteristics of yarns are related to the warmth retention of clothing, because the structure of yarns determines whether the fibers can form a stationary air layer.


  

Yarn structure

Fluffy, there are more gaps in the fabric, forming air layer. When there is no wind, there is more static air and better thermal insulation. When the wind is available, the air can pass smoothly through the yarn, so the cooling is better.


For tightly knitted yarns, the fabric woven by them is also relatively compact. Therefore, air flow is prevented and thermal insulation is better. When the structure is too tight, the air in the fabric is reduced, that is, the reduction of static air will make the thermal insulation worse.


Hygroscopicity


The hygroscopicity of yarns depends on fiber properties and yarn structure.

If long silk yarn is smooth, woven fabric is easy to attach to the body. If the fabric is tight, moisture will hardly penetrate the fabric.

Short fiber yarn has fur on the surface, reduces contact with skin, improves air permeability and makes clothes more attractive.

The influence of elasticity.

Short fiber yarn: a certain external force is applied to the short fiber yarn. The staple fiber is straightened from the curl, and the external force can be cancelled, which can restore elasticity. After the short fiber is straightened, the force will continue to be added to it, and the staple fiber will slip or slip off. When the external force is cancelled, the non restoring deformation will occur.

Filament yarn: the external force exerted on filament yarn is less elastic due to its non crimp and the extent of elongation depends on the properties of the fiber.

Twist also has a greater effect on elasticity: the yarn with large twist has greater friction between fibers, so it is not easy to stretch and has relatively poor elasticity in the elastic range. The yarn with small twist has less friction between fibers and is easier to be stretched.
