Under the auspices of the Department of energy, researchers at the agency's advanced research project (ARPA-E) are studying a garment that can adapt to thermal performance according to the environment and the body temperature of the wearer.

The structure can pmit heat to the body and take away heat. This garment can make people feel comfortable and comfortable in a wide external temperature.

This heat energy can be moved in 3 ways: one is energy pmission through conduction, that is, atoms in materials; the two is through convection, that is, moving in the environment through high-energy atoms; three is radiation, allowing heat to move like electromagnetic waves.

Clothing can control heat by changing the amount of radiation pmitted to the body or the ease with which air flows.

The Alon Gorodetsky team at California university is trying to control radiant heat.

"We are drawing inspiration from squid and cephalopods, all of which have such amazing camouflage skills."

He said.

Squid can make use of a mixture of proteins in the skin to change the ability to reflect light.

The team is applying this technology to longer infrared wavelengths in the heat band.

"We are using this technology to study materials that can regulate the temperature radiation of objects."

Gorodetsky said he did not disclose how his team would implement such a cephalopod radiation control technology.

The Jintu Fan team at Cornell University is taking a different approach, which involves a series of inlays.

Underwear

A tiny pipe network that controls the circulation of hot air and cold air.

"Outside of it, you can wear whatever you like."

Fan said.
